Daphnia

painting by Louis Du Pasquier (2011)

Research group of Dieter Ebert

The main focus of the group are the evolution, genomics and ecology of host-parasite and host-mutualist interactions. Research topics include local adaptation, coevolution, evolution in metapopulations, the evolution of microbiota, the evolution of sex, genome evolution, trait mapping and genetic/genomic architecture. In the last years we developed a Diversity Panel of the crustacean Daphnia magna with the aim to understand species wide patterns of genomic and phenotypic diversity.

AIDS was an illness in stages, a very long flight of steps that led assuredly to death, but whose every step represented a unique apprenticeship. It was a disease that gave death time to live and its victims time to die, time to discover time, and in the end to discover life. (M. Guibert 1991)
