Fertilization Biology
The fertilization biology of chaetognaths is also very interesting. The sperm has to pass through a so called accessory fertilization cell in order to enter the egg. This probably allows the female function a lot of control over which sperm gets access to the eggs, which is very interesting in the context of sexual conflict and cryptic female choice. Again the figure is from the paper on Spadella cephaloptera and Sagitta inflata by Carré et al. (2002) (see their paper for a detailed description).
