Cichlids of the tribe Haplochromini have a special breeding behaviour: the female lays the eggs in a pit and snaps them up into the mouth to breed them there for a few days. The males are carrying conspicuous egg-spots on the anal fin, which have an important function in courtship and spawning behaviour. I want to examine if there is a difference in attractiveness, mating success and fertilization rates between males (Astatotilapia burtoni) with natural and altered egg-spots.
