Mathias Kölliker

Assistant Professor SNF. I am a behavioral ecologist / evolutionary biologist with a strong interest in understanding the interface between phenotype and genotype driving adaptation to ecological and social environments. In my research, I am particularly interested in the evolution of behavioural phenotypes expressed in social interactions. Such interactions generate behavioural feedbacks through indirect genetic effects and particular patterns of selection (e.g., kin selection). Both effects can have important influences on behavioural evolution. In my research, I am applying theoretical and experimental tools of behavioural/chemical ecology and evolutionary genetics to understand the evolution of behavioural phenotypes, focussing on behaviours expressed in animal families where parents provide and offspring demand resources for offspring development and survival.
